1) Customer claims "too short/ too narrow"
The original order was October 2003. The retail customer sent the item back to the distributor unauthorized in mid December '03. The top was sent back by the distributor without an RGA # or prior notification that the item was being returned at the time we were closing for the holidays. The box was set aside until the distributor inquired about a credit for the top, fullvue, & pad set 2/25/04. We located the box & examined the item for the problems reported. We found the following:
- Only the top & full vue were in the box. No pads, no wire-on kit were with the box. Installation had been attempted by the customer or a professional installer, we do not know which.
- All items are correct & dimensionally accurate when overlaid on our paper patterns.
- Based on mounting marks on the fullvue & ragged cut edges, 1-1 1/2" of material was cut off the bottom of the fullvue.
- With this amount of material cut off, & based on the staple marks, the exposed trim at the bottom of the fullvue would wind up below the body line. Note the excess at the passenger side lower corner.
- Using the staple marks at the bottom & top edges, it appears that the rear bow was set too low - approx 17-18", not the 19 1/2" required. Bow heights are determined by measuring from dead center body line up to the dead center rear bow, not from the lower tacking strip which is several inches below the body line. With the rear bow set this low, the top will be too short at the front.
- The fullvue was mounted too high on the drivers side only, causing staple holes to be evident from the inside after the fullvue was repositioned. Folding the fullvue over & aligning specific points show how much higher the mounting was on one side.
- Folding the Top over & aligning the lower edges of the quarter panels, it is evident that the installer set one side approx 1" too far to the front or 1" too far to the rear. With the top mounted in such an unsymmetrical position there is no way to make the top fit evenly.
We were never notified us about problems encountered during the installation or we could have helped walk them through the installation. At worst the customer would have had to purchase a new fullvue. Our patterns are symmetrical. When an top is installed unevenly, there is no way it will fit properly. We do not give credit for improperly installed items.
- 1 - Note the uneven installation at the bottom tacking edge - drivers side is too far to the rear, the passenger side ( underneath the drivers quarter face, black inside facing up) is set farther to the front. When properly installed, the cutouts should be nearly identical from side to side.

- 2 - note amount of materials cut off bottom edge & poor mounting at passenger side

- 3 - note the staple marks several inches up on drivers side only.

- 4 - note the measurement of 19 1/2" from bottom edge of the fullvue up to the staple marks at top dead center.

- 5 - note the excess on the passenger side versus the drivers side, as well as poor mounting. Fullvue is folded over in half, zipper to zipper with the top edges of the exposed trim aligned.

2) CLAIM FOR DEFECTIVE TOP 1/2007
CUSTOMER CALLED TO SAY THAT THE TOP FIT FINE, BUT WHEN THEY FOLDED IT DOWN INTO THE REAR WELL, THE TOP TORE DUE TO THE "USE OF DEFECTIVE MATERIAL". THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE INSTALLER STAPLED THE WIRE-ON TRIM TOO FAR OVER THE CURVATURE OF THE REAR BOW - ON BOTH SIDES. THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH FREE MATERIAL TO ALLOW THE TOP TO FOLD PROPERLY, AND WHEN THE MATERIAL STRAINED AGAINST THE WIRE-ON TIP, THE TIP CUT THROUGH THE MATERIAL. THE TENSION WAS SO GREAT, NOT ONLY DID THE TOP TEAR BUT THE WIRE-ON ITSELF TORE! (SEE THE TORN END ON THE DRIVERS SIDE)
WIRE-ON SHOULD NOT EXTEND MORE THAN 6-8" PAST THE DECK SEAM, OR PAST THE POINT WHERE THE FACTORY ORIGINAL WIRE-ON TIP WAS INSTALLED. (EXAMINE THE TACKING STRIP TO LOCATE THE WIRE-ON SCREW HOLE)
